How will your call be remembered?
In today’s Gospel and Homily, we hear the call of Nathaniel by the Apostle Philip. Philip tells Nathanael that “the one whom Moses wrote about in the law” has been found and that he is from Nazareth. Nathanael ignobly replies: “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” But despite this beginning, he is soon awed by Jesus’ power and insight and drops his prejudice and pretense.
For most of us, this quick conversion of Nathanael is unusual. We may be strong in our faith one minute and weak the next. As Fr. Michael notes, the cynicism that Nathanael first applied to Jesus exists strongly in our world today and it isn’t always quite so easy to overcome.
