Continuing the Easter season, this Gospel is from Luke and it highlights the disciple, Cleopas, and another unnamed disciple, rushing out of Jerusalem onto “The Road to Emmaus.” These two were distraught and overwhelmed from the events of the Crucifixion of their Lord, Jesus Christ.
On their journey they met a stranger who walked along with them. The two were amazed that this man was totally unaware of what had taken place in Jerusalem just days before.
The two disciples shared the horrid events with this stranger and then expressed their anxiety and huge disappointment. They also told the man that a few women claimed that their Lord had risen. This man responded by sharing Scripture and expressing how it had been fulfilled.
When they arrived in Emmaus, they invited the stranger to join them for dinner. When He broke the bread, the two disciples’ eyes were opened and they finally recognized that this was their Lord, Jesus Christ.
