“See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1
In 1988, an earthquake hit Armenia, killing an estimated 25,000 people. Just after the earthquake, a father rushed to his son’s school only to find it had been flattened. There was no sign of life.
Though it seemed hopeless, the father began desperately removing rubble from where he believed his son’s classroom had been. He worked and worked at this seemingly fruitless task. Many told him it was futile, that he should just go home. But the dad responded, “I made my son a promise that I’d be there for him anytime he needed me. I will continue to dig.”
Alone, he worked on and on, clearing away rubble. An hour passed, then 10, then 24. He found nothing. He found no one; still, he continued. Finally, after 38 hours, he moved a large piece of rubble and heard voices. He screamed his son’s name.
Imagine his joy when he heard his son’s voice answer back. He was alive! Minutes later, the man helped his son and 13 other frightened children climb out of the debris. The boy hugged his dad and told him, “I told the others not to worry. I told them you promised me you would always be there for me. I knew you’d come.”
This earthly father showed such amazing love in rescuing his son! He literally moved the earth to find him. But, how much greater is the love of our heavenly Father who created heaven and earth? How much deeper is the love of our Father who “…so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him may not die but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Everlasting life!
Our heavenly Father has given us everlasting life. We have already been rescued. Nothing could ever keep Him from coming to His children.
Alleluia!
Amen? Amen!
